INDEXING WORKSHOPS
Interested in learning how to create back-of-the-book indexes or in honing your indexing skills?
If so, consider "burning some midnight oil" and enrolling in one of three online correspondence indexing workshops now offered by veteran indexer and instructor Lynne M. Grimes, MLS on a limited basis.
OPTION 1: Back-of-the-Book Indexing Basics is a 4-week workshop, consisting of 4 weekly lessons and associated assignments delivered via email (you choose the day of the week to have your lessons and assignments delivered). The workshop covers everything from: What exactly is an index? to Can't a computer do the index? to Do I really want to try my hand at indexing? A copy of CMS15 is required for this workshop. Fee for this workshop is $100 (US).
OPTION 2: Back-of-the-Book Indexing Nut-and-Bolts is an 8-week workshop, consisting of the 4 weekly lessons and associated assignments of the Back-of-the-Book Indexing Basics workshop, plus an additional 4 sessions specifically designed to assist and guide the student in the creation of that all-important first index. A copy of CMS15 and Nancy C. Mulvaney's Indexing Books (Second Edition) are both required for this workshop. Fee for this workshop is: $250 (US).
OPTION 3: One-On-One Back-of-the-Book Index Review can be tailored to the individual student and can consist of from 2 to 10 one-on-one email sessions during which the student's index will be critiqued. Both general guidance and specific revision choices will be offered. Fees range from $50 (US) to $750 (US).All three workshops are designed and taught by veteran indexer and instructor Lynne M.
